Latest Developments in Coatings & Deposition: An Abstract The focus of recent developments in coating and deposition is on providing new functionalities in an environmentally friendly manner. The enabling factors for these advances are, in large part, progress in Nano-technology and Graphene. In addition, better understanding of natural nanostructures covering a variety of plants and animals allow material designs based on nature, or “bio-inspired” coatings using nano-technology. Some of the new applications using coatings such as photovoltaic (PV) cells with higher efficiency and smart windows further aid in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission. In this issue of newsletter, we discuss the newest developments in antireflective (AR), self-cleaning, and super hydrophobic, antimicrobial, anti-fouling, anticorrosion, and multifunctional coatings; as well as the use of deposition technology in creating temporary patterns of graphene and a new method for lowering cost of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for producing graphene.
