Materials for Ocean Energy Technology II
Ocean energy technology has long been seen as a niche technology, but has recently started gaining mainstream attention. Ocean energy has the potential to supply a significant portion of the global demand for electricity, including 10% of the electricity demand in the U.S. Moreover, it is a highly predictable source of energy, unlike other renewable emery sources like wind and solar energy. This makes ocean energy highly attractive. The US federal government has invested over $50 million in ocean energy in the last five years and has laid out a roadmap to achieving at least 15 gigawatts of grid-connected ocean energy by 2030. This newsletter explores the different types of ocean energy and highlights recent developments in this area.
