Filter and membrane materials technology plays a crucial role in water, energy, and environmental applications. In this newsletter we provide updates on recent developments in water filtration, fuel cell membranes, industrial filters, diesel emissions filters and air filters. In fuel cells, it is critical to develop membranes that are less sensitive to humidity and allow improved water management. As emissions regulations are tightened in the EU and the U.S., the development of diesel filters is going to be critical to make this fuel efficient engine technology truly environmentally friendly; technologies are already in place to deliver "50 state legal" diesel cars in the U.S. market that meet the new California and Federal regulations. Further, materials technology plays an important role in water, air and general industrial filtration. Advanced filter technologies are often based on nanomaterials that enable effective filtration with low pressure drop.
