Micro Fabrication Technologies
With nanotechnology and microengineering making significant strides in recent years, new fabrication processes aimed at building molecular size devices are becoming increasingly important and breakthroughs are being made in this area. Recent advances in microdevice fabrication have paved the way for the more challenging nanotechnology and molecular manufacturing. Furthermore, microdevices such as MEMS and microsensors have enabled novel applications such as implantable biosensors. In this newsletter, Baverstam assesses trends in microfabrication technologies and provides an overview of recent developments in microdevices and fabrication technologies for such micrometer scaled devices. Advanced microtechnologies such as microprinting and micro precision bonding are also discussed and new developments and announcements in microfabrication processes are highlighted.
