Recent innovations in materials and manufacturing techniques play a key role in realizing the objectives of personalized medicine: providing customized treatment for individuals, and promises improved quality care at lower cost. Crucial enabling technologies include Additive Manufacturing (AM), tissue engineering, and a range of biocompatible, and nanoscale materials. Many research and development (R&D) activities around the world focus on innovation in medical applications benefiting these technologies. Three major medical applications of materials destined to benefit from recent innovations in materials include Acute Wound care, Implants, and Targeted and On Demand Drug Delivery.
